Congratulations to President Obama and Looking Forward to the Future

Posted on 20:08 by Unknown

January 23, 2013

The Honorable Barack Obama
President of the United States
The White House
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President:

I write to congratulate you on your inauguration to a second term as the 44th President of the United States.  We join in prayer with faithful brothers and sisters across this nation, that God will guide your hand and your heart as you continue in service to our nation.

In listening to your Second Inaugural address, I was pleased to hear that so many of our priorities coincide.  As a church, we have been committed to challenging a culture of violence, with a special focus on ending gun violence and violence against women; reducing economic inequality and poverty, at home and abroad; addressing global climate change; ensuring that immigrant brothers and sisters have a safe and permanent path to citizenship; and building a lasting peace and security around the world.  To our delight, your Second Inaugural Address touched on all these issues.

We look forward to working with you and your Administration in the coming four years in order to achieve these lofty, yet essential goals.

We give thanks for your service to our country and pray that God will bless you and guide your choices as our leader.

Sincerely,

The Reverend Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II
Director of Public Witness
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
