For the past ten years, high-ranking officials in the war-torn country of Sudan have engaged in crimes such as genocide, torture, aid restrictions, and various other offenses which have been declared crimes against humanity by the United Nations and International Criminal Court. In the first few months of 2013 alone, an estimated 130,000 people have been displaced due to the conflict. This spring, the Sudan Peace, Security, and Accountability Act was introduced to the House of Representatives to address the dire situation of civilians living in the South Kordofan, Blue Nile, and Darfur regions of Sudan. The act presents a solid piece of legislation that will go a long way to protect civilians, secure the delivery of emergency aid, and punish those who continue to enact widespread violence against the masses.

To read the text of the legislation and see a list of cosponsors, click here: http://capwiz.com/pcusa/issues/bills/?bill=62726616

This act entails some of the most substantial action taken by the United States against the ongoing atrocities in Sudan. It is important for you to ask your lawmakers to co-sponsor HR 1692: Sudan Peace, Security, and Accountability Act.

Write your representative today and ask them to support HR 1692: The Sudan Peace, Security, and Accountability Act!  Click here to send a message today!
